SHIM GUNG - MIND IS THE PRIMARY ACTOR AND BODY DE SECONDARY ONE

I have often thought about how Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan can contribute to the formation of people who practice it, for so that person can be a real tool to promote peace in the world.

Those who practice the martial art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan think mostly it is only practicable when wearing the Do Bok and are in the Dojang, and this is because they feel that a martial art consists only of basic techniques, hands and feet strikes, forms, self defense, etc.., which must be learned to go from one belt to another, until you get to wear the blue belt  and hopefully become into Sabom.

Only a small portion of advanced practitioners of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan have found the philosophy that lies behind the physical practice. Of all who have been concerned to learn philosophy, few have realized the source of it and that has to do with the ultimate goal of being an instrument of peace in the world.

It has been said by Grandmaster Hwang Kee that the fundamental principle of the art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan is that mind is the primary actor and the body the secondary one. Now, we must meditate much on this principle and know all the background that it  has to really understand how this principle works.

Perhaps the task of explaining, let alone understand it, exceeds by far the purpose of writing this essay, therefore, only intended as a guide to start looking for the answer to shed light begins to set aside the shadows of doubt and lack of faith that determines it very difficult to even begin to seek understanding.

Mind and body, only two words and that if you do a survey, will be many different kinds of response that you will get. But it is very important to try to define what each of them to make sense of the sentence as a fundamental principle of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan.

What is mind? It is very difficult to define or put it in words and try to cut the words to clarify the meaning of this word. What can be said is that mind is not the brain, is not the function of thinking, calculation, which performs the volitional activities. These are faculties that are identified with the functions of the left brain. In the Tao and who have studied it deeply, it says that the universe is mental, all creation is part of what generated from one of the original energy is a reflection of the mind of the creator, so the creator is also part of each creature and each creature is part of the creator, that is both creator and created are one.

There is a higher intelligence that connects all creation, all part of the universal mind, and as this is no exception to what has already been pointed out, our mind is also communicated part of that universal mind. So that mind, is that through the Shim Gung is communicated with the universal mind, so that, although our brain does not detect it, is permanently connected to the whole, with the collective unconscious, everything is already known even can be known in advance, so when we use our mind, it can know exactly what should be done.

Now, many will wonder where lies the mind? As one Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan master told me one day, the mind resides in the right hemisphere of the brain. This hemisphere is the one that deals with intuition, creativity, and all the tasks which could be considered abstract.

Both hemispheres, left and right have different working speeds in the normal waking state, is the left hemisphere that has the leadership, but with decreasing speed, whether in the dream state or meditation, right hemisphere begins to take control. It is there where intuition and creativity, driven by the connection with the collective unconscious, become known to the volitional brain, generating actions that will have real significance.

How to make the mind really be much more present in our daily lives? That is only achieved when the meditation is something that occurs daily at least twice daily, once in the morning upon waking and one at night before bedtime. It is not necessary to devote more than 20 minutes to each of the meditations. To learn more about meditation, you should consult with a guide who knows the subject really.

The word body need not to be defined, since all have an  idea what is the physical body and how it works.

Now, how is that mind is actually the actor primary and body the secondary one?. First we will identify Mind with Shim Gung and Body with Weh Gung. The power of Shim Gung, the enhanced mind becomes from the next process. Need-Intent-Creativity-Imagination.

The Weh Gung then manifested by the action caused by the previous process. For example: If someone attacks with a kick to our middle-low body, our mind connected with the attacker, recognizes the need to defend itself, it generates the real intention of carrying out the defense, and therefore the mind Imagine how the defense and creativity make the method of defense. The process described is none other than the power of the mind or Shim Gung which operates the chain of command instructing our HURI (hip) to move accordingly. This process and through the mind be still and constantly flowing energy tends to be shorter, almost instantaneous, as we are more connected with our inner self and everything around us.

We can also draw attention here to another important concept, absolutely related, "stillness involves motion, motion stillness" which can also be found in the Sip Sam Seh song. At this point we can say that STILLNESS means "STABILITY", therefore one should maintain its stability even in the movement, in that way you will find the stillness in motion.

The whole process of Shim Gung action of the mind generates the Final Action that results in a blockade of the lower, meaning that the body responds to the mandate of the mind. The success of this action is given by the way our Weh Gung, the more standardized, better equipped technically, has reacted to the influx of the action of the mind.

Let us apply the same method, but now with other needs, now the Necessity will benefit the environment, then the intent must be powerfully focused to the common good, meditation beget the connection and cause the expansion of energy, as wave energy will affect the minds of all who are involved in our connection, as long as I intend to remain powerful, all my actions will be coordinated to the satisfaction of the original necessity, benefit from an environment of peace and joy in the environment which we live.

This is neither more nor less, Mind is the primary actor and Body the Secondary one.

Finally the use of this fundamental principle can be applied to everyday practitioners of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan? If practitioners of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan recognize the need to embrace more strongly and more deeply the principles that underpin our martial art, through reading and understanding the Tao, the practice of meditation, his mind will start to be much more connected to the original nature of our existence, and is known to the original state of mind is ecstasy, which causes happiness in the person experiencing it. Meditation activates the Shim Gung and Neh Gung intervention, the Weh Gung is manifested in the drive way possible.

It is also proved that when the mind is connected with the primal nature generates clean energy and benefactor, that expands and affects its surroundings. So a mind actively connected benefits the environment in two ways, one through the expansion of energy and another through the good deeds which generates a clean mind. Thus the person who follows the fundamental principle, and without having to be dressed in the Do Bok and within a Dojang, will benefit your family, workplace and all those who have a relationship with them.

In summary, a SHIM GUNG powerful, clean, influenced by the philosophy behind Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan, generate a great MOO DO JA SEH, forming good intentions to bring forth good deeds.
